From the Four Winds

Item #84836

[GALSWORTHY, John]. Sinjohn, John. From the Four Winds. Orig. green cloth stamped in gilt. London: T. Fisher Unwin, 1897. [with] Jocelyn. Orig. gray-green cloth. London: Duckworth and Co., 1898. [with] Villa Rubein. Orig. red cloth, paper labels. London: Duckworth and Co., 1899. [with] A Man of Devon. Orig. blue cloth. Edinburgh: William Blackwood and Sons, 1901. Lovely editions of Galsworthy's first four books, all published under a pseudonym as he did not wish to use his real name while his father was still alive. From the Four Winds is a first edition. Villa Rubein is a first edition, first issue, in the first binding, of which only 250 copies were produced and thus is quite rare to find in such nice condition. A Man of Devon is notable for the inclusion of the short story "The Salvation of Swithin Forsyte," introducing the Forsyte family of characters for whom Galsworthy would become most famous. All with slight edgewear, else a very good or better set of Galsworthy's first published works.
