MORLEY, C[hristopher] D. The Eighth Sin. Orig. gray wrappers, custom chemise and slipcase. Oxford: B. H. Blackwell, 1912. First edition of Morley's rare first book, one of 250 copies printed while Morley was up at New College, Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar. Many of the poems reflect the sights and sounds of Oxford before the First World War, but are nevertheless still recognizable today. With a lengthy inscription dated 1944 on the half title to John M. Allison (1905-1978), at that time a consul in London and later the U. S. Ambassador to Japan. Edges toned, else a very good copy.
