First edition of Bellamy's first book, written while he was in Hawaii, after he had had to leave his job as a lawyer and newspaper editor when he was diagnosed with tuberculosis (from which he ultimately died at age 48). The novel features an ailing newspaper editor sent to the seaside to recover, where he is pursued by six different women - no wonder it was published anonymously! A rare book, with no auction records in over 50 years. Cloth toned, especially at spine, else very good.
