Item #84452

ROOSEVELT, Theodore. A Book-Lover's Holidays in the Open. New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1916. 1st ed. x, [2], 373, [2]pp. Frontis., plates. Orig. cloth. Very minor rubbing to binding, some foxing to title-page, else a very good or better unopened copy. Inscribed by President Theodore Roosevelt on the front fly-leaf. "With Best Wishes of Theodore Roosevelt March 29th 1916". This is a collection of President Roosevelt's personal reminiscences of his hunting expeditions out west and through South America. Roosevelt describes that throughout his life's experiences, whether in the face of real danger or trekking across the continents, he would always find himself unwinding with a book. He looks back on his life and explains the importance of reading and that just as we must eat to sustain our bodies we must read to sustain our minds. Very rare with only a handful of auction appearances of the first edition; OCLC locates only 21 copies in university holdings.

Price: $6,500.00
