Boards a bit stained, some toning, else very good. Nevins I, p. 163: "The revealing letters of a surgeon stationed for most of the war in Louisiana and Mississippi; many personal observations." Inscribed by the author on leaf facing title page to a Mrs. B. F. Evans, a patient of his in Cincinnati, with further annotations by her and a descendant.
