Approximately 22" x 21." Printed in red, white, and blue on cotton. Bears portraits of both candidates along with flags, stars, and eagles. An exceptional presidential election bandana with little in the way of soiling. Very good. Threads of History, 596. A very nice example of a nineteenth-century campaign bandana for Harrison's winning bid for office, 1889-93. Prior to serving as the twenty-third president, Harrison served in the Civil War in the 70th Indiana Infantry and was appointed colonel by Governor Morton. After two years of duty he became brigade commander and in 1864 his command was attached to Sherman's army and participated in the battles of Atlanta. After returning home, Governor Morton request that he help fight the Copperhead influence and was raised to brigadier-general. Harrison served in the senate from 1881 to 1887, winning his first presidential campaign and losing his second to Grover Cleveland. He died in 1901.
