This well-written autobiography contains chapters on the doctor's journey westward with interesting material on his life in Deadwood along with practicing medicine in the Texas Panhandle. The doctor recants his encounters and stories of cowboys, vigilantes, gold miners, along with firsthand accounts on Billy the Kid, Jesse James, and Lew Wallace. Hoyt had a key role in the medical core during the Spanish-American War along with the Filipino Insurrection. His time practicing medicine in the west resulted in a truly unique prospective on many infamous outlaws and cattlemen.
