Van Nostrand, 1867. 1st ed. 8vo. 276, [12 (advts.)] pp., frontis., plates, maps. Orig. cloth; all plates and maps present as called for. Binding is a trifle rubbed minor soiling, but presents very nicely. Evenly toned through. One leaf with a superficial tear touching the text but with no loss. A very good or better copy. Dornbusch III: 2582. This copy belonging to General Thomas H. Ruger with his name on the front pastedown and a note in his hand that it was "Presented by Gen. Andrews." Andrews, who ended the war as a major general, commanded the 2nd division of the XIII Corps and participated in the siege and storming of Fort Blakely, Alabama. On 9 March 1865 he was assigned command of the district of Mobile. Ruger was himself appointed major general in 1864. He was involved in many important campaigns including Sherman's Atlanta Campaign. A nice association.
