Carey's son Henry married Martha Leslie in 1819. This is a collection of some of Carey's most effective essays, including his account of the Yellow Fever epidemic in Philadelphia, his defenses of Irish Catholics and of immigrants to the United State, and his account of public societies (he was a founder of the American Philosophical Society and the Hibernian Society).
