Item #78729

LEAKE, Isaac Q. Memoir of the Life and Times of General John Lamb, an Officer of the Revolution, Who Commanded the Post at West Point at the Time of Arnold's Deflection, and His Correspondence with Washington, Clinton, Patrick Henry, and Other Distinguished Men of His Time. Albany: Joel Munsell, 1850. 1st ed. x,431pp. Portrait frontis., four maps. Orig. embossed cloth. Slight wear to spine ends and corners, endpaper, light scattered foxing to exterior leaves, else a very good copy. HOWES L-165. "General Anthony Lamb, the son of Gen. John Lamb, was desirous that his father's exploits in the Revolution should be commemorated in a book, and his brother-in-law, Isaac Q. Leake, undertook, from the family papers and other sources, to prepare this memorial volume. The family was parsimonious of money, and Leake was furnished with a capital of $380 only, with which to procure an engraved portrait and have the printing done. The interest in General Lamb was not sufficient to create a brisk sale, and the work, therefore, did not pay. An effort was made to sell the edition to Gen. Anthony for the debt remaining upon it, but without effect"--Munsell Imprints, p.41.
