Item #78625

[FRANKLIN, Benjamin and JACKSON, Richard]. An Historical Review of the Constitution and Government of Pennsylvania... London. 1759. viii,[18],444pp. Contemporary speckled calf, ruled in gilt, rebacked in period style, spine gilt, gilt maroon morocco label. Boards slightly rubbed. Text faintly toned, contemporary ownership signature on titlepage. Very good. HOWES P-204. Ford 253. Sabin 25512. A scarce Franklin-related work. This book was for many years attributed to Benjamin Franklin, but it was more likely written by his co-agent in London, Richard Jackson, with Franklin's advice. The work was essentially an argument made, in reviewing the history of the province, for the rights of the Assembly over the Proprietors. An important publication.
