Phila.: Printed by Fry and Kammerer for C. and A. Conrad and Co., 1807. 4to. BAL 906, State A. One of about 96 copies on coarse paper. Includes 14 engraved plates (the first four presidents, signers of the Declaration of Independence, a portrait of Barlow, and 11 plates illustrating the text). "[T]he first American-made deluxe book to be manufactured on a cost-is-no-object basis.. Nearly all the American book arts had something special to contribute to The Columbia"-John Bidwell, The Publication of Joel Barlow's Columbiad. The blind-tooled border in the central panels is identical to the gilt-tooled outer border on the AAS/Papantonio copy of the Columbiad. Tipped in antiquarian bookseller's letter from 1895. Endpapers replaced, occasional light scattered foxing.
