Includes 14 engraved plates (the first four presidents, signers of the Declaration of Independence, a portrait of Barlow, and 11 plates illustrating the text). "[T]he first American-made deluxe book to be manufactured on a cost-is-no-object basis.. Nearly all the American book arts had something special to contribute to The Columbia"-John Bidwell, The Publication of Joel Barlow's Columbiad. The blind-tooled border in the central panels is identical to the gilt-tooled outer border on the AAS/Papantonio copy of the Columbiad. Tipped in antiquarian bookseller's letter from 1895. Endpapers replaced, occasional light scattered foxing.
