A valuable diary filled not only with excellent genealogical material concerning the Coates, Horner, and Yarnall families, but also life in early 18th-century Philadelphia, the yellow fever epidemic of 1793, Benjamin Rush, William Cobbett, Elias Boudinot, the Battle of Trenton, etc. Presentation inscription from the author on front endpaper: "William Yarnall from cousin Mary Coates, Jan. 20th, 1888." In addition, at the end of the volume a page has been tipped in on which the author has written the descendants of Benjamin Horner. On the verso, "This was accidentally omitted when the book was printed." Laid in is an extra copy of the portrait of Samuel Coates.
