Volumes One-Three in contemporary calf, Vol. One rebacked in period-style calf with raised spine bands, all 3 vols. have contemporary red morocco spine labels. Vol. Four bound in later cloth, red and black morocco spine labels. A very good or better set. Evans 32655, 34331, 29291. S&S 1121; Tower 801. Volume Two has the ownership signature of Robert Coleman on the title page. Coleman (1748-1825) rose from being a bookkeeper at the Cornwall Iron Furnace to becoming Pennsylvania's first millionaire. Vols. Two and Three also have the bookplates of his grandson George Dawson Coleman who was also a prominent industrialist. Evans shows Vol. II as published in 1798, but Tower gives the correct titlepage date of 1793. Contains the laws of Pennsylvania from 1700 through 1801. These volumes include the laws of the colonial, Revolutionary, and Federal eras. Alexander Dallas, Secretary of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, supervised the publication and later served as James Madison's Treasury Secretary.
