Autograph letter from Addams tipped onto front free endpaper, dated 3 Dec. 1910, presenting this volume to "Dr. Ochsner" "as a slight expression of my gratitude." The ownership signature "A.J. Ochsner" is on the front pastedown. Albert J. Ochsner of Chicago was considered one of the finest surgeons in the United States and was one of the founders of the American College of Surgeons. Jane Addams founded in Chicago the second and most innovative settlement house in the country. From there, she became a leader of the worldwide women's movement and for global peace.
