Spine lightly sunned, boards rubbed, some light edgewear, light scattered foxing, else very good. P&W 4870. Confederate Hundred, 40. Hardee's Tactics was widely used by both sides in the Civil War. Ownership signature on front pastedown and front free endpaper "S. Hale, Maj & A.A. & D.I., Early's Division, June 1863." Jubal Early wrote of Major Samuel Saunders Hale, Jr. (1839-1864): "[M]y Inspector General, Major Samuel Hale, had been mortally wounded at Spotsylvania Court-House on the 12th [May, 1864] while serving with the division and acting with great gallantry during the disorder which ensued after Ewell's line was broken."
