A very good copy. Howes C-562, "aa." Rink 4897. An attractive and pleasing production, celebrating the opening of the Erie Canal. One of the first books extensively illustrated by lithography published in the U.S.A. Several large folding plates, with panoramic views of New York Harbor crowded with shipping, a cross-section of the canal, locks, scenic views and ornate fire-company pumpers drawn by horses. It is the first book with illustrations by George Catlin.
