Larned 2077. Rader 3773. Raines p.223. The first scholarly history of Texas written after annexation. Hubert H. Bancroft called it "one of the best, if not the best, history of Texas." Yoakum, an 1832 graduate of West Point, moved to Texas in 1845 settling near Sam Houston. He served under Jack Hays in the Mexican War, and began writing his history of Texas about 1850.
