A comprehensive early American military manual. Rawson includes the ideas of Field Marshall Count Saxe, Baron Von Steuben, and the Chevalier de la Valiere, as well as his own experiences as aide-de-camp to General John Sullivan during the American Revolution. Dedicated to Anthony Wayne, the text includes observations on the duty of soldiers in general in militia and actual service; infantry, cavalry, and artillery maneuvers; and instructions for officers of "partizan" corps. The appendix consists of the text of the 1792 Militia Act, the orders of Major General Wolfe and the form of regimental court martial.
