History of Georgia, Containing Brief Sketches

Item #67048

M'CALL, Captain Hugh. The History of Georgia, Containing Brief Sketches of the Most Remarkable Events, up to the Present Day. Savannah: Seymour & Williams, 1811; William T. Williams, 1816. 1st ed. 2 vols. vii, 376; vii, 424pp. Later full leather with raised bands and gilt tooling. A very good copy. Howes M-33. Sabin 42973. First edition of the first history of the state. "One of the scarcest of state histories. Unfortunately unfinished; the history stops at 1783. Its details of border warfare with the Creeks and Cherokees are copious, authentic, and interesting" - Sabin. M'Call (1767-1824) was an army officer and pioneer, and he wrote this history from personal knowledge, manuscript sources no longer extant, and what we would now call oral history interviews with veterans of the Revolutionary War. Volume Two is almost entirely devoted to this war.

Price: $4,500.00
