Leather scuffed, minor wear to corners, light scattered foxing, else a very good copy. This is Samuel Gross's first published work, from the same year as his graduation from Jefferson Medical College, translating the French of Bayle and Hollard. Gross (1805-1884) was a renowned trauma surgeon and has been immortalized in Thomas Eakins' 1875 painting The Gross Clinic, showing him instructing a group of medical students in the surgical theater.
