A lovely copy of this example of American engraving, one of the finest series of urban views produced in the 19th century. This is the second view book of Philadelphia, following that of William Birch. Includes engravings of prominent churches, the State House, Pennsylvania Hospital, University of Pennsylvania, Christ Church, Bank of the United States, and Eastern Penitentary including a plan of the cell arrangements that so struck De Tocqueville.
