(VIRGINIA REGIMENTAL). IRBY, Richard. Historical Sketch of the Nottoway Grays, Afterwards Company G, Eighteenth Virginia Regiment, Army of Northern Virginia; Prepared at the Request of the Surviving Members of the Company at Their First Re-union at Bellefont Church, July 21, 1877. Richmond: J. W. Fergusson & Son, 1878. 1st ed. 48, (1) pp. Mounted photographic plates. Orig. full morocco. Some wear to spine ends, lower corners bumped, else a very good copy. HOWES I-73. This Virginia regimental is scarce in any issue but that with the original albumen photographic plates is excessively rare. Another presentation copy idicates that only 15 copies with plates were issued. The two plates are a portrait of Robert E. Lee and a group of portraits of the company's officers including that of the author. In the appendix leaf Irby writes, "I have procured copies from the photographs of nearly all the officers of the company, more or less perfect, as the picture copied was good or ba. I trust that this group, with the best likeness extant of our noble leader, Gen. Robert E. Lee, on the front page, will be duly appreciated and approved."
