Barthelemy Sernin du Moulin, Baron de Montlezun (1762-after 1839) arrived in Virginia in 1816. After visiting Madison and Jefferson, he sailed to New York, then went by sea to New Orleans, where he spent several months. He then went to Havana for three months before going to Charleston for a month to complete his American sojourn. A veteran of the French Army during the American Revolution (he fought alongside his father at Yorktown), his strong Royalist sentiments led to many criticisms of American democracy, as well as a conviction that the sale of Louisiana by Napoleon was illegitimate. This is the only edition. Rare.
