Item #41754

[FRANKLIN, Benjamin, and JACKSON, Richard]. An Historical Review of the Constitution and Government of Pennsylvania.... London, 1759. [26], 444pp. Original paper boards. Spine nearly perished, front joint cracked, bookplate tipped to verso of front free endpaper, rubbed. Overall very good, largely unopened. In a folding cloth box. Howes P-204, Ford 253. Sabin 25512. This book was for many years attributed to Franklin, but was more likely written by his co-agent in London, Richard Jackson, with Franklin's advice. The work was essentially an argument made, in reviewing the history of the province, for the rights of the Assembly over the Proprietors. An important political work for the American colonies.
