Canfield in 1890 and contains seven numbered "Sketches" which he authored, together with Reports of the Annual Meetings of the Old Settlers Association of Sauk County between 1872 and 1895, and Old Settlers' Illustrated Souvenir Album (153pp.). Canfield provides an introductory note dated Oct. 20, 1890 and a Table of Contents to the Sketches and the Reports. The contents seem to be made up of the original printings of the several items, hence the pagination and some differences of format. The first sketch was published in 1861 in Baraboo, WI. Titlepages of the later sketches have not been included. Canfield later became famous as the chief engineer of the Northern Pacific Railroad. This volume contains a trove of information about the history, localities, and personalities of Sauk County.
